Terry Handshy

Terry Dale Handshy, of Oklahoma City, passed away on June 13, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Terry was born in Litchfield, Illinois to Ralph and Christine Handshy on October 1, 1941.  He graduated from Edwardsville High School. He attended nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital earning a certificate in pre-nursing. He served in the United States Navy for four years based in San Diego, California.  Terry made a career in Respiratory Therapy at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha, Oklahoma.  Upon retiring from Grady Memorial, Terry quickly got bored and went to work for Excell setting up in-home respiratory equipment for patients and consulting with them on its use.  He enjoyed the time he had with his patients and would often spend his time visiting with them or driving them to doctor’s appointments.  Terry loved the time he spent with his family, dancing and looking for a great bargain at garage or estate sales.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Handshy, his sister Marion Ford, his son Michael Handshy and his grandson Daniel Whitfield.

Terry is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Theresa and Ferlin Widowski, Sheila and Tracy Whitfield, Dana and Mike Bowen, Kim and Ronnie Pierce and Tara and Ross Thiry; his son Jason Handshy and Bridget Layman, brothers, Gene and Jerry Handshy, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity.
