Roy Lee Dowdy

September 18, 1949 ~ March 27, 2021 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Tribute

Roy passed away on March 27, 2021, at the age of 71. He resided with his husband, Shannon Dowdy, in Oklahoma City, OK.

He was born in Plainview, TX, to Aulton and Aliene Dowdy. Roy grew up in the Texas panhandle and he attended many schools. He graduated high school from Stratford, TX, and joined the Air Force with his twin brother, Troy. They served in the Air Force for 4 years, going on the “buddy system.” They were stationed in South Korea for 13 months during the Vietnam War era. After returning from South Korea, they were stationed in Wichita Falls, TX, for the remainder of their tour, where Roy met his wife Marolyn. Roy and Marolyn returned to Plainview, TX, and had their two daughters, Carrie and Donna. They moved to Moore, OK, for job prospects and remained in that area for the duration of his life.

Roy began a new chapter of his life in 1999 with his husband, Shannon. They had a love for traveling and raising Tiffany and Kelsey. There are no words to describe the magnitude of love, generosity, and kindness Roy showed us all. As we all know, he would drop anything to help anyone at any time. He was a man of all trades and loved a good challenge. There is nothing he could not do.

His hobbies consisted of cooking, sewing, building, and even playing the piano. I am sure we will all remember his famous carrot cake. Some of us knew him as a husband, dad, brother, pappaw, Mr. Roy, friend, and the list could go on and on. He loved us all deeply and he always made sure we were taken care of. His puppies were everything to him and were his companions when he retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 2013.

He was preceded in death by both his parents Aulton and Aliene Dowdy; all grandparents; brother, Roger; niece, LaShell Burnett; and brother-in-law, Dub Burnett.

Roy is survived by his husband, Shannon Dowdy; daughters, Tiffany and Kelsey Sharp of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter, Carrie Bond and husband Jay of Yukon, OK; daughter, Donna Elam and husband John of Shattuck, OK; sister, Linda Burnett of Woodward, OK; twin brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Debbie Dowdy of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law, Diane Dowdy of Plainview, TX; and mother and father-in-law, Joe and Joan Love; six grandchildren: John David, Abby, Ben, Jack, Drew, and Reese; and numerous other family members and friends. Roy’s funeral will be at Moore Funeral and Cremation on April 3rd, at 2pm, and his final resting place will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery.
