Ron L Cummings

August 16, 1954 ~ July 24, 2022 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Tribute

Ronald L Cummings, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the age of 67. He was born on August 16, 1954 on a submarine base in New London, Connecticut. Ron is survived by his wife of 12 years, Diana Morgan; stepmother, Patricia Cummings; brother Donald Cummings; along with numerous extended family, colleagues and friends.

Ron graduated in the class of ’72 from Norman High School. He earned both his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Psychology. Ron was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He earned his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia.  Ron was a licensed Psychologist and very much enjoyed being a Supervisor at the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, Disability Determination Services (DDS) in Oklahoma City. He found his work deeply satisfying and was very happy in his career. Prior to working at DDS, Ron was a prison Psychologist and sometimes rode his motorcycle to work in Lexington, Oklahoma. In his very early years while still in school Ron earned money making doughnuts in the early mornings.

Ron, though a person who liked to fly under the radar, had many passions in life. One of those passions was for being outdoors. He loved hiking, downhill skiing, cycling and golf. He enjoyed playing bridge with his fraternity brothers and the occasional poker game with his poker buddies. He also loved being at home, watching shows with Diana, walking his dog and laughing at his cats’ antics. Diana and Ron loved to walk around the small lake in their neighborhood while they discussed all manner of things. One of the highlights in his life was traveling around Europe in his 20’s on a Eurorail pass with his fraternity brother, David.

Ron was a long-time meditator and found much peace in that. He became a student of Audle Allison in his 20’s and belonged to the Lotus Center and later the Christ Center. He also meditated with Circle of Light here in Norman. Aside from Audle, Ron was a fan of Eckart Tolle, Carlos Castenada, Neale Donald Walsch and Ram Dass.  Another highlight of his life was traveling to India with Diana early on in their relationship to be trained as Oneness Blessing Givers. One of Ron’s deepest desires was to wake up and become enlightened.

Ron was kind, loving, calm, and touched many lives in his 67 years on this Earth. He had recently told Diana that he was very happy with his life. He will be truly and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Wayland Cummings and brother, Gene Cummings.
