Tribute

Penni, a lovely wife and a beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 with her family by her side. She had just been diagnosed with cancer one week prior to her death. She was cared for by Russell Murray Hospice and nurses Sarah and Jennifer were excellent and caring nurses to her.

Penni was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma, and father, Bill, brother, Richard, and son, Dean.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, her daughter, Brandy, her sons, Shaun and Patrick, her stepdaughter, Erin, her daughters-in-law, Cindy and Chelsea, her grandchildren, Kynli, Christian, Marshall, Colin, Hillary, and Sarah, her great-granddaughter Novaly, her brother-in-law, Mike Hogan, nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Penni was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on September 9, 1944 to Thelma & William Power and became a little sister to Richard Power. The family moved to Midwest City, OK when Penni was in junior high. She attended Midwest City High School and was a proud MWC Bomber. She married David Niles in 1962 and gave birth to her daughter, Brandy and first son, Dean. In 1966 she married Richard Hagan and gave birth to sons Shaun and Patrick. Not long after Patrick’s birth, the family moved from Oklahoma to Arkansas. After a few years in Arkansas, the family moved to Mississippi for one year and then Georgia for three years. They finally settled in the valley in South Texas from 1979 to 2005. The multiple moves were made for Richard’s promotions in the National Weather Service. In May 2005, she and Richard made their last move to Alpine, Texas to their lovely mountain home where they have enjoyed many happy years of their retirement life.

Penni’s favorite role was wife and mother and she excelled at both. She was a great cook and her family enjoyed many great meals from her hands. She was famous for her buttermilk pie recipe! She worked outside the home for several years in the banking and insurance business in Los Fresnos, TX.

Penni was an avid reader. She was also a diligent student of the Bible. She loved to read and study the Bible and especially loved to talk about the things of God. Hot tea was her beverage of choice. She also enjoyed crafting through the years. She loved to crochet, knit, foil art, ceramics painting, designing stained glass artwork, quilting, sewing clothes, and many others.

Penni was the definition of a servant's heart, and did so much work behind the scenes in order to help as many as she possibly could throughout her entire life. She had a particular passion for mission work and supported many missionaries through the years.
