Tribute

Manuel Cano Galura, 92, of Norman passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021.

Manuel was born in Pampanga, Philippines on February 15, 1929, to Manuel Bondoc Galura and Monica Cano Galura. He was the fourth born of six children. He had three sisters: Aurora, Estela, and Luz. And two brothers: Felix and Honorio. He graduated high school in 1949. After that, he studied at the Philippine School of Arts and Trade majoring in drafting. He then attended Mapua Institute of Technology majoring in architecture. He got his first job out of school as a draftsman at Clark Airforce Base. He received a job in Afghanistan training Afghans as engineering draftsmen. After a decade in Afghanistan, Manuel led his family to the U.S. He got a job in Oklahoma City as an engineering draftsman for Ben Ham Blair Architect and Engineering Consultants. After that, he began working in the engineering division for the City of Oklahoma, where he worked for 12 years until he went to RGDC Engineering Consultants and worked there for 9 years. Once he left RGDC, he started work for a printing company called Triangle A&E, where he retired in 1998. He carried a few part-time jobs to stay active until finally retiring for good in 2008.

He married his college sweetheart, Rosario Pamintuan on June 12, 1956. They had 46 beautiful years of marriage before she passed. They had four sons: Michael Bliss Galura, Romeo Galura, Martz John Galura, and Ronald James Galura. Sadly, Romeo and Ronald predeceased him. He married his newfound love, Adore Pineda on October 4, 2003. They were married 18 wonderful years. He was a devoted husband and father. A loving family man, who always put them first. He was also a Grandpa to four grandchildren: Natalie, Aleshia, Andrew, and Jacob. He went on to be a Great Grandpa to three great grandchildren: Adriana, Adian, and Lillian. He gave his family an abundance of love, affection, and many beautiful memories.

Manuel led his family to the U.S. as immigrants and he took pride in that. He became a U.S. citizen in 1983. He was proud to be a Filipino American. He made Norman home once in the U.S. and immediately became an OU Sooners enthusiast. He took pleasure in dancing, playing mahjong, thrifting, and cooking. He was personable and loved being around people. Manuel had the kindest most gentle soul. He was soft spoken and always quick to listen, slow to speak. He was truly one of a kind. He will forever be missed, but he planted a seed in us that will grow forever.

He is survived by his wife, Adore Galura; his son Michael (Sandy) Galura; his son, Martz Galura; his granddaughter, Natalie Kelley; his granddaughter, Aleshia (Lorenzo) Maldonado; his grandson, Andrew Galura; his grandson, Jacob Galura; 3 great-grandchildren, Adriana, Adian, and Lillian Maldonado

Manuel will remain with us forever, as nothing can ever take away the love and memories, we hold dear. Although our hearts ache, we know he found peace while we wait to be together again.
