John Burks

John David Burks, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at the age of 54. John was born on June 4, 1968 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to David Burks and Loretta Schumacher (Roberts). Anyone who knows John knows that he was an avid sports fan. In his younger days at Moore High School he played basketball – he was an original Moore Lion! He loved all sports, from football, to baseball, to basketball, and even golf. He was a huge OU fan and football season ticket holder for years. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, LA Dodgers and Oklahoma City Thunder. John also loved to immerse himself in different cultures. He loved listening to all types of music (especially KISS), going to art galleries, attending live concerts, collecting art, and going to various different cultural events. John was always happy at a big festival, game or show; his family shares fond memories of attending OU football games, Kattfest, the Dia de los Muertos festival, The Phantom of the Opera and Reggae Fest with him. John was an amazing person, a great son, and the best friend you could ever ask for. He had a great sense of humor, a kind heart and was an irreplaceable brother. His loss is felt deeply and he is truly missed.

John is survived by his father and stepmom, David and Darla Burks; brother, Drew Burks and his wife, Lauren; brother, Jeff Burks and his wife, Marianne; sister, Trina Koonce and her husband, Steve; sister, Rhonda Laws; nieces and nephews, Jason, Julie, David, Bradley, Trey, Gabi, Quinn, and Bodhi; along with several additional extended family members and numerous friends.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Loretta Schumacher (Roberts).

We will be celebrating John’s life on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 1pm at Moore Funeral and Cremation. Attendees are encouraged to wear apparel of one of John’s favorite sports teams or bands. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
