Janice Lavon Prater

Jan Prater, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the age of 83 with her loving grandson by her side. Jan was born on February 21, 1940 in Ada, Oklahoma to Phillip and Bessie (McGhee) Bradley. She enjoyed so many different things in life. She loved going to the cabin and picking pecans. She married the love of her life, Cecil Prater and enjoyed raising their family. After Cecil passed in 2013, she spent her time with her grandson, Devin. She loved teaching him how to cook. Part of that teaching included gardening and growing her owns herbs. Jan had a green thumb and tried to pass that on to the future generations. She loved spending time camping in Colorado. When she wasn’t camping or gardening, she enjoyed playing Phase 10, Canasta; and Bunco with her girlfriends.

Jan is survived by her son, Darren Prater; grandchildren, Devin Davis, Jacob Prater, and Andrew Prater; brothers, David Bradley and Wayne Bradley; sister-in-law, Floetta Prater; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Demetra Prater; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Cathy Prater; brother-in-law, W.C. "Dub" Cochran; brother-in-law, David Prater; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Levi and Naomi Casselman; along with several additional extended family members and friends.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Bessie (McGhee) Bradley; and husband, Cecil Prater.

A private family-only service was held, as per Jan’s wishes.
