Donald Wayne “Pa Buck” Buchholz, age 87, went to be the Lord in the early morning of Wednesday, November 20th, 2019 at the Norman Veteran’s Center, Norman, Oklahoma after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 14th, 1932 in Geddes, South Dakota to Julius and Elsie Jassman Buchholz. Don was raised in a large family on a farm with seven brothers and sisters, and is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends and neighbors. Serving in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, he retired from the Air Force in 1979 after 27 total years’ active duty, attaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. A combat veteran, Don saw service in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After military retirement, Don worked for several years at Executone of Oklahoma, and then retired again as a federal employee at Tinker Air Force Base in 2004 after many years as a Project Manager for the 38th Engineering Installation Group.
Don enjoyed many things in life to include crossword puzzles, Sudoku, reading, golf, and traveling. Don and wife June traveled all over the continental United States and Canada. They particularly enjoyed spending nearly every spring and fall season camping in their fifth-wheel trailer at their favorite places, Canton Lake and Lake Murray, Oklahoma, where they made many “camping” friends; Sunny will forever cherish their times shared, and the memories they made together.
Donald Buchholz is predeceased by his parents, brothers James and Richard, and infant son Donald Wayne Buchholz, Jr. He is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, June “Sunny” Buchholz, brothers Harvey (Delores) Buchholz, Arlon (Martha) Buchholz, Robert (Kathy) Buchholz; twin sister Donna (Buzz) Durham, sister Eleanor Johannsen, son Todd (Michele) Buchholz, daughter Stacy (Clyde) Bohlke; sons Robert (Patricia) Sandstrom & David Sandstrom; daughter Dawn (David) Mobley; grandson Brandon Buchholz; grandsons Stephen (Sarah) Sandstrom, Shane Paulk, Deuce Mobley & Clint (Bre) Barney; granddaughters Dana (Jake) Steel, Christel (Brian) Lofthouse; and 18 great grandchildren.
