Tribute

David Lynn Hoffpauir, of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 73. David was born on December 12, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Larry Jimmie Hoffpauir and Clonia Ann Hoffpauir (Freeman). He married the love of his life, Phyllis Roberts, on August 19, 1971. Together they spent the next 51 years of adventure, ministry and love together.

David pastored for the Church of the Nazarene for 46 years, serving in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Iowa. He graduated from Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) in 1972 and was ordained in 1975. He served on the SNU Board of Trustees and was selected as SNU Alumnus of the Year for the Louisiana District in 2019. David and his wife, Phyllis, were also awarded the Distinguished Service Award for their many years of service to the Church of the Nazarene.

David loved spending time outside tending his yard, gardening and playing horseshoes or bocce with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed discussing OU and LSU football with his sons, and you could often find him wearing LSU purple and gold. He could eat Kentucky Fried Chicken for every meal if you let him, especially if there was a heaping helping of rice and gravy to go with it.

But if you asked him what was most important to him, he would tell you God, family and the church, in that order. He dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel and raised his children to serve God. Even in retirement, he ministered at his local church for as long as he was physically able. David was an accomplished pianist and accordion player and nothing gave him more joy than serving his God and his church through music.

David was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather (papa), and he will truly be missed. But he is certainly playing beautiful music for his Savior in Heaven, rejoicing that he has gone home to be with his Lord.

David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Phyllis Hoffpauir; children, Jeremy Scott (Janelle) Hoffpauir, Brett Jason (Samantha) Hoffpauir, and Ryan Jeffrey (Heather) Hoffpauir; grandchildren, Colin Hoffpauir, Logan Hoffpauir, Jason Hoffpauir, Caitlyn Hoffpauir, Luke Hoffpauir, Caleb Hoffpauir, Sophia Hoffpauir, and Elena Hoffpauir; and siblings, Sharon Ruth Hoffpauir, Regina Joy (Clay) Zevely, and Jan Nelda Hoffpauir.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Jimmie Hoffpauir and Clonia Ann Hoffpauir (Freeman); and siblings, Karen Nita Read and Esther Ann Duroy.

A visitation will take place from 5-7 pm on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Moore Funeral and Cremation.
