Tribute

Chloe Irene Driggs James-Fry
May 17, 1921 - January 13, 2020

Chloe spent the first 17 years of her life on the land her grandfather claimed in the Oklahoma land run of 1891. After graduation from high school in Cushing, OK, she married Archie James on Christmas Eve in 1938. After several moves, their family made their home in Pauls Valley in 1953 until Archie passed in 1989.

After she moved to Oklahoma City to be near her daughter, she reunited with a lifelong friend, Chester Fry, at a high school reunion in Cushing. They married January 26, 1993 and lived in Lone Grove, OK until his death in 2014. She then moved to Norman, OK.

She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ronald Tanner of Moore; daughter-in-law, Judy James of Seminole; four grandchildren and their children, Jennifer and Robert Ready (Lauren and Clay), Jeff and Heather James (Jensen and Jacey), Nic and Kortney Tanner (Trinity and Kipton), Kyle and Niki Tanner (Landon and Brendon); two stepchildren, Larry and his wife, Rosey Fry, Karen Lee; and several step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Luticia Driggs; her first husband of 50+ years, Archie James; second husband of 20+ years, Chester Fry; sons, Jimmie Eugene James and Tommie Joe James; brother, Marlin; and her sister, Faye.

Chloe loved visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was well known for her love of art, cardinals, Thunder Basketball, and her pride in her Oklahoma Land Run heritage. Anyone who received a card from her also got a hand drawn cardinal, her trademark.
